Registration opens for the 2022 edition

Registration is now open for the second edition of the Luciano Berio International Composition Competition organized and promoted by Filarmonica della Scala together with Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Centro Studi Luciano Berio, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Teatro Carlo Felice and Universal Edition (EU).

Reserved for composers under 40, the mission of the Competition is to promote contemporary music and young composers through the production and dissemination of new pieces for symphony orchestra.

To participate in the competition, candidates must submit, by November 15, 2022, two scores, one for symphony orchestra, the other with free ensemble from a minimum of 3 instruments. Works that have already been performed or published may be submitted, provided they are made anonymous.

A prestigious international Jury, chaired by Sir Antonio Pappano, Conductor Musicale dell'Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and composed of distinguished composers such as Luca Francesconi, Tania León, Philippe Manoury and Hilda Paredes, will examine and evaluate the scores submitted by the candidates.

The Winner of the Competition will receive the following prizes:
- commission worth 20,000 euros for the composition of an original piece for symphony orchestra;
- 6 guaranteed performances, with premiere performed by the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and thereafter with partner Orchestras;
- publication of the piece from Universal Edition (EU) through scodo;
- free subscription to Professional Plus at the scodo | Universal Edition (EU) publication portal.

Universal Edition (EU) will also offer all contestants a free one-time evaluation of their work.
