BIOGRAPHY

Myung-Whun Chung, the first ever to be appointed Conductor Emeritus of Filarmonica della Scala Milan from 2023 and Conductor Principal Guest of Dresden Staatskapelle, as well as Conductor Honorary Musician of Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in Paris and KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) Orchestra, was recently appointed Conductor Artistic Director of the new Busan Opera and Concert Hall in South Korea.

Myung-Whun Chung's long and outstanding musical activity also includes: Conductor Musicale of the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra, Conductor Principal Guest of the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Conductor Principal Guest of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and Conductor Musicale of the Opéra de Paris-Bastille. Myung-Whun Chung has conducted major orchestras in Europe, the United States and Asia.

He has been honored with numerous honors and awards: Commandeur de la légion d'honneur from the French government, Commendatore dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia and Grande Ufficiale dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana from the Italian government, and Keumkwan from the Korean government. He was also presented with the keys to the city of Venice.

Since 2008, Myung-Whun Chung has been an International Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF.
