Open rehearsals

63 charity evenings, over 106,874 spectators, over 1.5 million euros raised, 49 associations supported since 2010 .

These are the numbers of Open rehearsals of Filarmonica della Scala, now a full-fledged musical season that each year allows the public to attend the tuning of great concerts at affordable prices while contributing to important projects in the social field. Once again this year, the very popular charity cycle allows the public to attend concert rehearsals by opening the doors of the Teatro alla Scala at moderate prices with a social purpose: four ticketed events, from March 17 to November 3, 2024, anticipating the respective concerts of the season, raise funds for as many projects of Milanese nonprofit associations. The Open rehearsals 2024 cycle is dedicated to four Third Sector entities that carry out projects in Milan aimed at combating educational poverty: Don Gino Rigoldi Foundation, Mercury Association, Children in Crisis Italy Onlus Association, Giambellino Community Social Cooperative.

From caring for children to combating poverty, from caring for the elderly to caring for people with disabilities, from scientific research to projects for suburban youth, over the years Open rehearsals has in fact contributed to meeting various community needs. This is thanks to the generous participation of the orchestra's musicians, conductors and soloists, the collaboration between the Teatro alla Scala, the City of Milan and Main Partner UniCredit, joined by Esselunga; and finally thanks to the support of UniCredit Foundation, which identifies the area of intervention, evaluates the projects of nonprofit organizations and covers the organizational costs.

The initiative is also made possible through the collaboration of media partners ViviMilano and Radio Popolare.

Open rehearsals is the charity project created in 2010 by Filarmonica della Scala. The initiative allows the public to attend concert rehearsals at Teatro alla Scala at affordable prices with a social purpose: with the proceeds Open rehearsals funds Milanese nonprofit Associations with different areas of social intervention: children and the elderly, the fight against poverty, assistance to people with disabilities, scientific research, and initiatives for youth in the suburbs. The last edition of Open rehearsals in 2020 supported Associations that support struggling families of out-of-home children being treated in Milan hospitals by providing them with housing during their stay. These included Buzzi Children's Hospital in Milan, the Ada Bolchini dell'Acqua and Pio Istituto di Maternità Foundations, and LILT _ Lega Italiana Tumori. This edition recorded nearly 10,000 spectators of whom 1100 were loyalists (the figure includes the free rehearsal that the orchestra dedicates to social services each year). In Italy, Open rehearsals is one of the best models of support for nonprofits through benefit concerts, because it guarantees the entire proceeds to the beneficiary associations, with no business risk. From 2010 to date €1,200,000 has been raised by supporting 44 Associations. In ten years with a growing audience Open rehearsals has allowed access to Teatro alla Scala at affordable prices to more than 100,000 people . In addition, the season preview on November 3 is free and dedicated to the initiatives of Social and Youth Policies of the City of Milan. The City of Milan, Philharmonic Main Partner UniCredit and UniCredit Foundation are involved, with an active role in decision-making. From 2019 Open rehearsals has the support of Esselunga.
