THE CONCERT WAS CANCELLED BECAUSE OF EVIL WEATHER.
The Concert in Piazza Duomo, the free and open-air event that Filarmonica della Scala dedicates to its city every year, is back. On the podium cannot miss Riccardo Chailly, Conductor music of the orchestra, accompanied by Emmanuel Tjeknavorian - a world-renowned violinist who as of this year has settled in Milan to lead the Verdi Orchestra.
It is the mutual attraction between symphonic music and great cinema that leads the evening's program. Emmanuel Tjeknavorian is soloist on violin for the suite from the ballet Le boeuf sur le toit op. 58 by Darius Milhaud, a triumph of carnivalesque rhythms and colors on popular Brazilian themes, which bears "Cinematic Fantasy on South American Motifs" in its subtitle and which Milhaud would have wanted as the soundtrack for a Charlie Chaplin film. After the extraordinary December 2022 concert Filarmonica della Scala returns to John Williams, with music from Schindler's List, Indiana Jones and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. One who represents a piece of world music and film history is definitely Nino Rota, whose suite and a selection of dances from il Gattopardo Luchino Visconti. Opening with the creative energy of John Adams' Lollapalooza, musical fun on the title word: "phenomenal, extraordinary thing" in American slang.
