Concertfor Italy: Filarmonica della Scala and Riccardo Chailly in Piazza Duomo and on TV
The Milan concert, live from the cathedral forecourt with Riccardo Chailly and violinist Maxim Vengerov, becomes a symbol of rebirth for the whole country
The activity of Filarmonica della Scala resumes after the summer. The long awaited return to concert activity finds new formulas from September: Concerto per Milano, postponed in June due to pandemic restrictions, will be held on Sunday 13 September at 8.30 pm. It will be called Concert for Italyit will be conducted by Riccardo Chailly, guest violinist Maxim Vengerov, with a programme that combines Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the most famous symphonic pages of the Italian opera repertoire, from Don Pasquale to Norma, from Manon Lescaut to La forza del destino. From the cathedral square in Milan the concert will be broadcast live as usual by Rai5 in Italy and by Arte TV in Europe, as well as distributed by RaiCom in over 20 countries, including Asia, Japan and the Middle East. The annual event, organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan, Main Partner UniCredit, sponsor Allianz Italia and with the support of Esselunga, will this year see the musicians play in front of the cathedral and takes on an additional symbolic value as a message of hope for a return to normality for the whole country and Europe, from the heart of a community that is recovering after having paid a very high price in this health crisis.
Piazza Duomo, which has long remained silent, comes back to life with music, with a concert for two thousand spectators seated and spaced out, in compliance with health regulations. Access will be allowed only with compulsory booking, to be made on the site philharmonica.it from 7 September. In the face of the forced reduction in live attendance, which in previous years has been as high as 40,000, television and streaming will be increased.
