FREE CONCERT - FREE ACCESS TO THE SQUARE

OnSunday 9 June 2019 at 9.30 p. m. the Filarmonica della Scala, Main Partner UniCredit and Sponsor Allianz present the seventh edition of the Concerto per Milano, the annual free symphonic event in Piazza Duomo that transforms the heart of the city into a concert hall under the stars. On the orchestra podium, as has been the tradition in recent years, is Riccardo Chailly who conducts Symphony No. 9 in E minor. by Antonín Dvorák and a tribute to Nino Rota, one of the most original and prolific Italian composers of the 20th century, on the fortieth anniversary of his death: the symphony by the Bohemian Dvorák, known as 'from the New World' for its inspiration from American folklore and the rhythmic vitality that made it one of the most famous and most surprising in the repertoire, is followed by the Suite from the ballet La Strada, from Federico Fellini's film of the same name (Oscar in 1957 for best foreign film), Risatine Maliziose and Galopp, excerpts from the soundtrack of the film Prova d'orchestra (1979), the fruit of that relationship between Rota and Fellini that produced masterpieces that over time became portraits of the whole of Italy.

On this anniversary, Filarmonica della Scala and Riccardo Chailly dedicate a record recording to Nino Rota. The Fellini Album", published by Decca of London, will be available from 7 June. It collects the most significant musical pages of films that the whole world loves: Amarcord, 8 ½, La dolce vita, Il Casanova, I Clowns.

Rai Cultura broadcasts the Concerto per Milano live on Rai 5 in HD, directed by Patrizia Carmine, on the web portal RaiPlay and on Radio3. Thanks to RaiCom it is also broadcast live in Germany, France and the French-speaking countries of Art, in Greece, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, and deferred in Korea, North Africa and the Middle East (MENA countries), Japan and China. Increasingly appreciated by foreign audiences and viewers, the event is one of the most eagerly awaited international events, confirming the identity value of the initiative that is the result of the synergy between Filarmonica della Scala - an independent institution that, without drawing on public funds, performs an important cultural and social function - its partners and city institutions.
