BIOGRAPHY

Fabio Luisi is Conductor emeritus of the Rai National Symphony Orchestra, Conductor music of the Zurich Opera House, Conductor music of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Conductor principal of the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition, starting with the 2022/2023 season, he has assumed the position of Conductor principal of the NHK Orchestra in Tokyo. He conducts the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Filarmonica della Scala and the National Orchestra of St. Cecilia. He was Conductor principal of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, from which he received the Gold Medal and the Golden Ring dedicated to Bruckner.

His past engagements include the musical direction of the Staatskapelle Dresden, as well as being the principal Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Conductor artistic director of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk in Leipzig, Conductor musical director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Conductor principal of the Tonkunstler-Orchester in Vienna and Conductor artistic director of the Graz Symphony Orchestra.

Luisi received a Grammy Award for his conducting of the last two operas of Wagner'sRing of the Nibelung. The DVD of the same cycle, recorded live at the Metropolitan and released by Deutsche Grammophone, was nominated for a Grammy for best opera recording in 2012.

His extensive discography includes works by Giuseppe Verdi, Antonio Salieri, and Vincenzo Bellini, symphonies by Arthur Honegger, Ottorino Respighi, and Franz Liszt, music by Franz Schmidt and Richard Strauss, and his award-winning interpretation of Bruckner's Ninth Symphony. In 2015 the Philharmonia Zurich started its own Philharmonia Records record label with Luisi's interpretations of Berlioz, Wagner, and Verdi, to which was recently added the rare performance of the original version of Bruckner's Eighth Symphony.
