Gianandrea Noseda is recognised as one of the most important conductors of his generation. Conductor Musicale of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington since 2017, from September 2021 he is the new General Musik Direktor of the Zurich Opernhaus, where his first Wagnerian "Ring" is scheduled. Conductor Musicale of the Tsinandali Festival in Georgia since 2019, Gianandrea Noseda is also Conductor Principal Guest of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Between 2007 and 2018 Gianandrea Noseda was Conductor Musicale del Teatro Regio Torino, which he brought to a new international dimension, characterised by important international tours and an impressive recording activity. In recognition of his activities in Turin, he took on the position of Conductor Emeritus of the Filarmonica Teatro Regio Torino.
Between 2002 and 2018 he conducted new and revived productions at the Metropolitan Opera in New York each season, as well as symphony concerts at Carnegie Hall. He is also a regular guest at Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London; in 2015 he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival.
Conducting the BBC Philharmonic from 2002 to 2011, Gianandrea Noseda was Victor De Sabata Guest Chair of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra between 2011 and 2014 and Principal Guest of the Israel Philharmonic Conductor between 2014 and 2020; he has conducted over one hundred symphony orchestras, including the Berliner and Wiener Philharmoniker.
Gianandrea Noseda's intense recording activity began in 2002 with the Chandos label, for which he has made over fifty recordings, many of which have received international critical acclaim and awards. With the London Symphony Orchestra he is recording symphonic cycles dedicated to Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev, while with the National Symphony Orchestra he is recording the cycle of Beethoven's symphonies and the rediscovery of African-American composers.
Attentive and willing to support new generations of musicians, Gianandrea Noseda has been collaborating regularly with the European Union Youth Orchestra for a decade.
Born in Milan, Italy, Gianandrea Noseda was awarded the title of Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana by the President of the Italian Republic for his contribution to spreading Italian musical culture throughout the world.
