Robert

Trevino

CONDUCTOR
BIOGRAPHY

Currently one of the most in-demand and highly regarded American conductors of the latest generation, he achieved international success in December 2013 when he conducted a new production of Verdi's Don Carlo to replace Vasily Sinaisky at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Following his triumph, Trevino became one of the Bolshoi's most popular guest conductors with numerous performances scheduled for the coming seasons. Invitations to some of the world's top orchestras followed.
In the summer of 2011, Trevino, selected by James Levine, was awarded the Seiji Ozawa Conducting Fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Festival in Boston, where he conducted Milhaud's Trios Operas Minutes.

Earlier in his career, Trevino was Leif Segerstam's assistant with Filarmonica della Scala in Helsinki for the complete cycle of Sibelius symphonies. His mentors also include David Zinman, Michael Tilson Thomas and Louis Langrée, with whom he worked closely during his tenure as Conductor associate of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Last year, Trevino became Conductor principal of the Shippensburg Music Festival, where his recent performance of Beethoven's Fidelio was particularly well received. Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos' recent version has been a major influence, and Trevino was proud to conduct the New Year's broadcast with the Danish Radio Symphony in a tribute to his mentor.

In May 2014, he opened the new hall of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Opera House in Florence, in his highly anticipated Italian debut with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, with whom he toured Europe and Japan. His relationship with this ensemble began only a month earlier with a last-minute substitution for Mahler's Symphony No. 5. Trevino has been invited to conduct the Orchestra in concerts at the Maggio Musicale and the Rostropovich International Festival in Baku, and to return for the next two seasons. He also conducted at two of France's top music festivals - La Folle Journée and La Roque d'Anthéron - and was immediately invited back.

Future engagements include debuts with the Bamberg Symphony (with a 'concert performance' of Lohengrin), Filarmonica della Scala National Russia, NHK Symphony, London Philharmonic, Danish Radio Symphony, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic (at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam), Dresden and Munich Philharmonic Orchestras.

In January 2015, he made his US debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

A great lover and interpreter of contemporary music, Trevino has worked closely with many of today's composers, such as: Augusta Read Thomas, Jennifer Higdon, Charles Wuorinen, Bernard Rands, Shulamit Ran, George Walker, David Felder and John Zorn among others. He has received numerous grants and awards from the Foundation for Contemporary Art, Gene Gutche Foundation and the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago.
