"I'm leaving for sure. My great sorrow remains down here." In his Violin Concerto, Alban Berg quotes melody and text from Bach's Cantata No. 60: it is just one trace of the composer's affection for Manon Gropius, an 18-year-old girl who recently passed away, an "angel" to whose memory he dedicated the piece. And the entire concert is a journey from darkness to light, a tender portrait of this teenager, her death and transfiguration. In the refined program proposed by Daniele Gatti to welcome us is the transcription for strings of Webern's Langsamer Satz. The second part follows the expansive melodies of Richard Wagner's Nuremberg Master Singers, in the arrangement by Dutch composer Henk de Vlieger.
