Makes her debut at Teatro alla Scala Barbara Hannigan, a world star whose voice is among the most original and in-demand on the contemporary opera scene. In the dual role of singer and conductor, she plays Elle, a woman at the height of grief, trapped in a world between fantasy and reality, in the original production of Francis Poulenc's La voix humaine against the backdrop of a screen portraying the artist's gestures thanks to video direction by Denis Guéguin and Clemens Malinowski. "I always thought that Elle's forays into unreality, illusion and control made La voix humaine a work suitable to be sung and directed simultaneously," he says. It is the same Elle who sings and directs Poulenc who conducts the melancholy sounds of Richard Strauss's Metamorphosen, a solemn reflection on the transcendence between the mundane and the divine.
