In 1970, at Ghent University, a 23-year-old Philippe Herreweghe and his group of friends decided to get together as an ensemble so that they could devote as much attention as they wished to the interpretation of Baroque music. Fifty-five years later that ensemble is the Collegium Vocale Gent: its crystal-clear sound is known throughout the world. From Renaissance repertoire for small chamber groups to modern oratorios for more than eighty voices, the extreme dedication to authenticity and the study of the score remains unchanged. The program at Teatro alla Scala is a tribute to Italy, featuring the majestic and complex work of Claudio Monteverdi.
