Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider is one of those rare musicians who "has made an uncommon transition to the podium, bringing his insight as a violinist and his profound musicality" (Cleveland com). The 23/24 season marks his fourth tenure as Conductor music of the Orchestre National de Lyon, a collaboration that has already been extended through 26/27.
Szeps-Znaider is a regular Conductor guest of some of the world's leading orchestras, such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the NDR Elbphilharmonie, the Bamberg Symphony, the Oslo Philharmonic, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. His upcoming return to the Chicago Symphony continues a flourishing relationship with the orchestra.
On the opera front, after making his debut conducting 'The Magic Flute at the Semperoper Dresden, Szeps-Znaider was immediately reinvited to conduct 'Der Rosenkavalier' in fall 2019. He also recently debuted new productions of 'The Magic Flute' with the Royal Danish Opera and the Zurich Opera House.
Also a virtuoso violinist, Szeps-Znaider maintains his reputation as one of the world's leading exponents of the instrument with a busy schedule of concerts and recitals. This season, he performs with the Danish National Symphony, Filarmonica della Scala of New York, the Cleveland Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala of Israel, the Chicago Symphony and the Singapore Symphony. He is also expected to return to London's Wigmore Hall, where he performs with pianist and longtime collaborator Saleem Ashkar.

Other notable recordings include Nielsen's Violin Concerto with Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, Elgar's Concerto in B minor with Sir Colin Davis and the Dresden Staatskapelle, the award-winning recordings of the Brahms and Korngold concertos with Valery Gergiev and the Vienna Philharmonic, the Beethoven and Mendelssohn concertos with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic, the Concerto no. 2 by Prokofiev and the Glazunov Concerto with Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony, and the Mendelssohn Concerto on DVD with Riccardo Chailly and the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Szeps-Znaider also recorded the complete Brahms works for violin and piano with Yefim Bronfman.
Szeps-Znaider is a passionate supporter of the next generation of musical talent and is chairman of the Nielsen Competition, held annually in Odense, Denmark. He plays the 1741 Guarnerius "Kreisler" "del Gesù," which was loaned to him by the Royal Danish Theater through the generosity of the VELUX Foundations, Villum Fonden and the Knud Højgaard Foundation.
