Riccardo Chailly and Filarmonica's musicians continue working on Prokofiev's symphonies: in the Third , rhythm becomes obsession. The obsession of Renata, in love with theAngel of Fire - and the protagonist of that opera whose symphonically more robust pages we find in this score -, locked in a world of nightmares, ecstasies and spectres. "I've always been fascinated by Prokofiev's uncomfortableness, both character and musical," says Chailly. With his workhorse, Alexander Malofeev, a young talent who rose to international prominence by winning the Tchaikovsky Competition when he was only 13 and is now in demand in all international concert halls, returns to La Scala.
