We can almost hear the mysterious initial crescendo of piano, which vents into a string melody so dense we can lean into it. It falls to Mao Fujita to perform Rachmaninov's most romantic Concerto for piano , having performed the dreaded Third in his La Scala debut in 2022. Myung-Whun Chung will know how to approach the Pathetique with the spontaneity that distinguishes his music-making, with his ability to stand in the emotions, and to invite us to follow him.
