In eighty years of music, three very different languages. For his return to Teatro alla Scala Manfred Honeck offers a varied and refined program, beginning with a tribute to fellow Austrian Johann Strauss with the overture to his most famous opera. This is followed by Maurice Ravel's "Fun," which is what he wanted to title his concerto in G: the sound of the piano is like cool, transparent water, in a playful dialogue with the orchestra that brings to mind Mozartian lightness. In the second part, Šostakovič's Tenth Symphony tells us about the new creative freedom of its composer, who returned to symphonic composition after a long hiatus of eight years upon Stalin's death.
