It will be Beatrice Rana to join young Israeli Conductor Lahav Shani for the opening of the Philharmonic's new season on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023 at Teatro alla Scala. The concert series opens with two of the most established young talents on the international music scene: Beatrice Rana she made her debut with Filarmonica della Scala in 2015, and has since been regularly acclaimed at Teatro alla Scala; Lahav Shani returns to conduct Filarmonica della Scala after a successful debut last May. The program puts them both to the test, with the 24 virtuosic variations of Sergei Rachmaninov 's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini for piano and orchestra and Ludwig van Beethoven's Third Symphony.
Technical mastery and strong interpretive personality led Beatrice Rana to winning Second Prize and Audience Prize at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at just 22 years old, and subsequently on the stages of major orchestras around the world. In 2017, his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations received awards for "Young Artist of the Year" at the Gramophone Awards and "Discovery of the year" at the Edison Awards.
A versatile and accomplished musician, Lahav Shani is the youngest Conductor Principal in the history of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra chose him to succeed Zubin Mehta, who led it for 50 years. Shani is also a pianist and was a student of Daniel Barenboim at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.
