Beginning Friday, Nov. 11 at 9:45 p.m. on Rai 5, and for subsequent Fridays, Rai Cultura is dedicating special programming to the Philharmonic with the documentary "TEMA - La Filarmonica della Scala and Milan. Portrait in 4 movements for city and orchestra" produced with Musicom.it. On the occasion of the orchestra's 40th anniversary, Rai Cultura traces its history from 1982 to the present in four appointments through its concerts, from founder Claudio Abbado to Conductor principal Riccardo Chailly, passing by the most significant personalities in the orchestra's history.
Directed by Andrea Franceschini, the special features speeches by Fedele Confalonieri, Marcello Flores, Angelo Foletto, Stefano Jacini, Silvia Lelli, Giuseppina Manin, Ernesto Schiavi, Giangiacomo Schiavi, and the orchestra professors of Filarmonica della Scala.
What does Filarmonica della Scala and Milan have in common? Time, Experience, Change and Action, like the four movements of a symphony, show what has made the orchestra an evolving yet true to itself. The city is not only the home of the world's most famous theater, but a true interlocutor and companion of events. Among the musical pages on the first date, Claudio Abbado conducts Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D major Titan; and Carlo Maria Giulini conducts Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 4 in E minor op. 98.
