Two extraordinary concerts celebrating the timeless art of Giacomo Puccini are promoted by the National Committee for Puccini Celebrations as part of the initiatives for the 100th anniversary of the composer's death that falls in 2024. On Sept. 16, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, the composer's hometown, and on Sept. 17, 2023 at 8 p.m. at the Teatro alla Scala of Milan, Maestro Zubin Mehta, a leading interpreter of Puccini's opera, will conduct the Filarmonica della Scala in the two places symbolic of the great composer's life and career
The concert program juxtaposes some of Giacomo Puccini 's most famous instrumental pages - the Symphonic Prelude and the Symphonic Capriccio - to a performance of the Symphony No. 4 in F min. op. 36 by Pyotr Il'ič Tchaikovsky
All proceeds from the concerts support the project Scholarships carried out by the National Committee for Puccini Celebrations in favor of young musicians and Puccini scholars. It is especially to the younger generation, in fact, that the Committee's support is directed so that the great master's musical and cultural heritage remains alive over time.
